So here's a question for everyone: What's the point of murdering people? They will just come back. I would imagine it would be such a hassle for everyone involved.

With that in mind, WHY DON'T YOU IDIOTS JUST STOP DOING IT!

Do something constructive for once? Like turn the pent up murdering tendencies on the monsters? Do us all a favor please.

So much wasted potential for making this place more habitable.

Now on to a more pleasant topic. Hello new people! Does anyone need a science/technology class or perhaps a language class to better adjust to this  -wonderful- place.

I would like to know how many people need classes, so please, don't be shy! Speak up!

She came about 2000 years ago. The excavation of her remains was much more recent.

Mako's been in use for...about half a century. . The problem is it comes from the Lifestream keeping the Planet alive--Midgar has eight reactors, and it's nearly impossible to get any green growing within city limits. But to most people, it's just seen as a power source.

[Cloud's guesstimate of mako use based on this timeline (http://thelifestream.net/final-fantasy-vii/107/complete-timeline-of-the-compilation-of-ffvii/). I figure he's so used to it being around that he's never really thought about its discovery, so he doesn't recall the specific year.]

So you're using your planets "life force" as a power source? That seems a little counter productive for keeping the planet alive.

How do the reactors work?

There's resistance to using Mako, but a lot of people don't know or care about the negative effects.

The reactors draw the Lifestream from out of the ground and refine it to produce pure Mako. Once it's used, it's gone--like oil.

It's another form of a fossil fuel on your planet.

Can you give me a list of all the negative effects you know?

It takes away the Lifestream, so the earth that's been completely drained can't sustain new life. Most scientists are funded by ShinRa in some way, so there hasn't been much research into the downsides of mako energy--but the other thing I know is that people exposed to too much mako get sick. It's...the Lifestream carries the thoughts and knowledge of everything that lived before. The mind just can't handle it in large amounts.

If the refinement is destroying the planet eventually it will be uninhabitable. But from what it sound's like, the company financing everything wants to make profit, not save the planet.

Can you describe the symptoms of this sickness? If the life stream carries such thoughts and knowledge, then is it possible that it may be sentient? It sounds almost like a telepathic entity.

Sentient? I guess it is, on some level...the Planet can redirect the Lifestream to where it's "wounded". Damaged.

Symptoms...Impaired judgment, loss of motor control...apparently memory loss is a possibility, from what Sephiroth said. Saw a guy hit with it once--he couldn't talk and he didn't have a clue what was going on around him. Just...lost in his head.

That sounds even more like a basic form of sentient. If the planet's aware of these "wounds" and attempts to heal them, on some level it's more alive than just a planet. Not on a human level, but more of a primal level maybe...

That sounds more like some sort of hallucinogenic drug.

Unlike drugs, it doesn't wear off. Not usually.

That may mean that there is psychological or maybe brain damage done by this "sickness". Unfortunately there is no way for me to know for sure without studying someone afflicted with this "sickness".
