Experiment 40 [Accidental/ Video]

[A and B appear very close to the camera, waving their little chibi arms.]

[A] Rain Rain

[B] Go away

[A] Never come back another day!

[They back away from the communicator to reveal that they are on Washu's desk. Moments later the chibi versions of Washu start doing a little dance routine while singing]

[A] It's raining

[B] It's pouring

[A] The old man is snoring

[B]He went to bed

[A]And bumped his head

[B]And couldn't get up in the morning.

[Moments later Washu appears being them... followed by several bouncing floating scales. She just sighs and shakes her head before reaching over and clicking off the Com.]

They are mine.

I fear that... they have escaped... as you can clearly see.

I hate to see these little cuties go, but if you must, come and collect them from my office.

[Aaaand, hey, hey Washu? You have a scale. It's on your head.

Looks like it likes you.

Jingle]

They are just simply adorable. They're everywhere, but adorable.

[And now there's two.

Jingle jingle.

And one on your shoulder.

And one on the other shoulder.

And four, and five and six and seven.

....

SCALE PILE ON WASHU]

Washu pauses and tries to removes the ones on her shoulders, then realizes there are several more surrounding her. She tries to remove them from herself for several minutes before sighing and sitting down in her desk chair and letting them pile around her.

Well... at least they're cute.

[They are, and they're all now quite happily roosting on almost every available flat surface. Legs, head, shoulders, knees, hands, fingers, everything. And seemingly quite happy to be there.

One even wants to have a seat on your nose.

Thank heavens the Medicine Seller shows up not but a few moments later.

If he finds this funny, he doesn't give any hints, other than a small smile.]

I see.... that you have made some friends... Madame.

She sighs and bats the one away from her nose. She doesn't even want to look at her hair.

She looks up at him as he enters and smiles.

"I suppose I have, now please tell them to stop using me like a bench. They're adorable, but there's too many of them."

[Oh yes, they're in her hair too. They like it there.]

Of course.

My apologies.

[He brought the medicine box with him, thankfully, and he sets it down on the ground now. By its own violation, a drawer pops open, and in a flurry of chimes and jingles, the scales all rise up and zip into the box, the last pausing at the lip of the drawer to give a little bow to Washu, before leaping in, the box shutting the drawer behind it.]

... Thirty.

... Hm...

Thank you, Madame.

She couldn't help but smile as the last one bowed to her.

They are so cute... what exactly are they? They can't be just scales.

They are.

[He picked up the medicine box, the thing almost as big as he was, shouldering the straps easily]

They are simply.... scales.

Nothing more.

She arched an eyebrow skeptically. as she watched him shoulder the giant chest.

"I've never seen scales act like that before.There has to be more to them then that."

[He gave no reaction to it. As if the chest was as light as air.]

... They are for measuring....

Distance.

That got her interest. She leaned forward in her chair curious.

"What sort of distances?"

[He didn't move, his face expressionless]

Between them... and something... not of this realm.

Oh~?

Other worldly hm? She was definitely interested now.She motioned for him to continue. She really wanted to see if he'd volunteer the information all on his own.

[The smile returned. He said only one thing.]

Mononoke.

Washu frowned a little, Mononoke? What was that?

"What is Mononoke?"

They are.... spirits... Intense and negative human emotions.... combined with ayakashi... "demons"...

A grudge... anger... hatred... fear... such things create a mononoke...

They are....

Abominations.

"They're made from negative emotions? But they're so cute."

She paused for a moment and smirked a little.

"Of course, I'm cute to, so I suppose it's possible."

Mononoke are not supposed to exist ... These scales...

Are simply tools... with which to find them.

Washu frowned slightly. Not supposed to exist? But if that were true, they wouldn't exist. She shook her head a little.

"Alright, so they're tools. How do they work?"

In the presence... of an otherworldly spirit...

They will indicate where it lies.

And reveal its movements.

At that she shook her head, alright so they were like a supernatural compass. It's an interesting concept, but did it work?

"Is there any way you can demonstrate this?"

[Oh ho ho, but he doesn't have to prove anything to anyone. He just smiles.]

Perhaps... you should observe them... while they remain free.
